Teens are more likely to go to bed late and wake late. Many high schoolers can stay awake well past midnight, but they dint get sufficient sleep if they wake up before 7am to go to school.
As we get older and hit our thirties or forties, we naturally revert to being early risers. That means we’ll have less difficulty falling asleep in the evening and are likely to wake up at the crack of dawn. However, post-puberty, there is a tendency for females to wake up earlier than males. This difference disappears in middle ages as sex hormones weaken, and it clearly shows how declining sex hormones affect sleeping patterns.
